Red Butte Garden Botany Bins

2020/2021 Botany Bin Changes:

Red Butte Garden has made the tough decision to cancel Botany Bin reservations until further notice to keep our staff, volunteers, students, and educators safe and to comply with guidelines from the State of Utah, University of Utah, and local entities. The Garden will reassess our school programs monthly using the latest Federal, State, City, and University guidelines

In the interim, we are excited to offer Botany Boxes! Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions Sarah.Sandoval@RedButte.Utah.edu

Botany Boxes are being delivered as quickly as possible based on funding and staff resources, please fill out the form below to request your Botany Box.

We are excited to be able to offer a Botany Bin alternative at NO-COST to Utah public school teachers. This new program strives to enhance Utah’s SEEd standards while accommodating socially distanced and virtual classrooms. Botany Boxes do not need to be returned and include individually wrapped student packets with materials and curriculum in journal form, along with optional online videos that lead the students through their Botany Box adventure. Botany Boxes will be limited as we work to secure additional funding, if we are not able to supply you with a Botany Box immediately you will be added to our waiting list and contacted as soon as one is available. Two modules are currently being created, Dendro Detectives and Seed Sleuths.

Current Botany Box Options:

Dendro Detectives Botany Box
  • Students become detectives as they work to save a grove of trees. Their detective journal and optional videos lead the students as they work to break the code hidden in tree rings, using their own magnifying glass and tree cookie (slice of a tree trunk). Dendro Detectives enhances the following SEEd standards: K.2.1, 1.2.1, 3.2.3.

Seed Sleuths Botany Box
  • Students work to unravel the mystery of seed dispersal as they investigate a variety of seed samples with the help of their detective journal and optional videos. This fun adventure uses the concepts of detective work to help students discover the scientific process. Seed Sleuths enhances the following SEEd standards: 2.2.3, 3.2.4, 4.1.1.
