Selecting an attractive, easy-to-grow groundcover can sometimes become quite a chore. Red Butte has a diverse selection of groundcovers growing throughout the Garden that you can reference to help decide what you want in your own garden.

Ground Ivy   Glechoma hederacea

This relative of mints tolerates light shade and full sun.

Chameleon Plant  Houttuynia cordata 'Chameleon'

The tricolor leaves make this spreading perennial attractive even when it's not in bloom.

Black Brass Buttons    Leptinella squalida  'Platt's Black'

This perennial with fern-like leaves will quickly spread and grow in any location with soil that doesn't completely dry out.

Pineleaf Penstemon   Penstemon pinifolius

If you wish to attract hummingbirds, this low-growing, spreading Penstemon does just that.

Self Heal     Prunella grandiflora   'Loveliness'

This cultivar produces light to dark pink flowers that attract butterflies.

Stonecrop    Sedum kamtschaticum

This tough, drought-tolerant species produces star-shaped yellow flowers above its glossy green leaves.

Partridge Feather     Tanacetum densum ssp. amani  'Zahir'

The incredible silver-white leaves attract the attention of anyone who passes by.

Variegated Periwinkle    Vinca minor  'Ralph Shugert'

This easily grown perennial produces lavender flowers and prefers light shade and moist soil.

We have many more groundcovers planted throughout the Garden in locations ranging from full shade to full sun. Come for a visit and see which ones will work best for you.
