Hold On!

Hold on! Just because it's winter and many plants have gone dormant, doesn't mean there isn't still plenty to see at Red Butte Garden. Visiting the Garden during winter is the only way to see exactly what attractive features some of our plants are still holding on to.

Bloodgood Japanese Maple    Acer japonicum 'Bloodgood'

This outstanding maple on the Floral Walk is still holding on to a handful of its curled, showy red leaves.

Eastern Redbud    Cercis canadensis

Also on the Floral Walk the dry, pea pod-like fruits of this gorgeous tree rattle in the wind.

Sweetgum    Liquidambar styraciflua

Although not pleasant to step on with your bare feet, the spiky fruits of this eastern U.S. native are intriguing to look at.

Redbud Crabapple    Malus x zumi var. calocarpa

Many of Crabapple trees throughout the Garden hold on to their fruits long into winter providing winter interest for people and food for wildlife.

Gold Tip Oriental Spruce    Picea orientalis 'Aureospicata'

The narrow brown cones of this stately spruce can hold on to the branches for two or more years.

If you don't visit the Garden during the winter, you're going to miss spectacular views like this.
