They're often easy to overlook and not much attention is given to them by the average garden visitor,so I thought I'd put them in the spotlight today. They are the inconspicuous flowers of Red Butte Garden.

The first two photos are Utah natives.

Curl Leaf Mountain Mahogany Cercocarpus ledifolius

This native shrub is an incredibly importatnt forage plant for Mule Deer and Elk. You can find it in our Children's Garden, Herb Garden, Floral Walk, Medicinal Garden and Natural Area.

Skunkbush Sumac Rhus aromatica var. trilobata

These yellow flowers produce fuzzy fruits that can be made into lemonade. The shrubs are drought tolerant and can take full sun. It can be found along our entrance drive and in the floral walk. There are also low growing cultivars of this shrub growing elsewhere in the garden.

The flowers on Boxwood really blend in with the foliage. You have to look close to see them.

Now is the time of year to check out all of the maples in the garden. They begin flowering just as their leaves start to open. They are sometimes same color as their leaves so look close.
