The Wonderful Water Pavilion

The Water Pavilion Garden is awash in late summer interest, from aquatics to water-wise plants. This garden is a great place to relax and enjoy spectacular views along with feathered and finned friends who would love to see you (and your donation of treats from the dispenser on the deck).

Gateway Spotted Joe Pye Weed  Eupatorium maculatum 'Gateway'

Large, open clusters of pink flowers top vanilla scented leaves of this sun loving perennial that likes to keep it's feet wet.

Umbrella Papyrus  Cyperus alternifolius

Frilly flowers decorate the center of large whorls of leaves on this stately aquatic sedge.

Thalia   Thalia dealbata

Purple, sculptural flower-heads and paddle shaped leaves create a tropical feel for ponds or water gardens. This Thalia and the Papyrus can be found off of the stone walkway that juts into the pond near the deck.

Leopard Plant   Ligularia dentata 'Britt Marie Crawford'

Disheveled, golden-orange flowers, glossy-green textured leaves and purplish-black stems make a fun and attention-getting display.

Siberian Bugloss   Brunnera macrophylla 'Jack Frost'

Intricately veined leaves decorate this shade-loving and spreading perennial through the summer. You can find this bugloss along with several other cultivars in along the main path to the south of the deck.

Siberian Yarrow    Achillea sibirica

In the grass bed you can find this attractive ground cover that loves the sun. It's blue-grey leaves display white flowers in late summer.

Whirlwind Anemone    Anemone x hybrida 'Whirlwind'

The white semi-double flowers of this Japanese Anemone are a beautiful beacon of the coming cool temperatures of fall.

Qingchuan Bamboo   Fargesia rufa

The Water Pavilion is a wonderful place to explore grasses and grass-like plants. This short clumping bamboo is a significant food source for the giant panda in China and makes for a hardy deer-resistant bamboo choice here.

Dwarf Zebra Maiden Grass    Miscanthus sinensis 'Hinjo'

If you're looking for a truly striking grass, look no further than this horizontally striped cultivar. The lively habit and contrasting stripes create an electric feel that really brings a garden to life.

The Water Pavilion in its full summer glory.

The Water Pavilion is truly shining in the late summer sun with a wide variety of plant and animal life. Treat yourself to an extended visit of one of the quietest and most relaxing areas in the Garden.
