Unique and Overlooked

The Garden is bursting at the seams with flowers blooming everywhere you look, so it's pretty easy to overlook some unique plants.

Ladyslipper Orchid   Cypripedium parviflorum var. pubescens

Hidden in a sea of other awesome plants, this gorgeous orchid is growing in the shade of the crabapples near the Papa Moose sculpture.

Yellow Bishop's Hat  Epimedium x. versicolor  'Sulphureum'

Look for this handsome little fella' growing low in the Service Berry Tunnel on the Floral Walk.

Vegetable Sheep    Raoulia australis

This member of the aster family has leaves less than 1/16" long and grows into large white mounds that can dot the hillside in their native Australia resembling sheep from a distance.

Fothergilla    Fothergilla gardenii

Delicate white flowers tip the branches before leaves develop. Be sure to stop by this one again in the fall as it has some of the most striking yellows, oranges, and reds.

Alexandria Strawberry   Fragaria vesca 'Alexandria'

Here is a look at Strawberry fruits before the receptacle expands to form the sweet red flesh we consume. This little guy is growing in the Herb Garden.
