The sound of falling leaves is said to be winter's footsteps. The leaves are definitely falling so that means winter is right at the door. Before someone lets winter in, come see natures last smile.

Yulan Magnolia    Magnolia denudata

Did you know magnolias produce their flower buds in the fall so that they are ready to burst open the first of spring?

London Plane Tree    Platanus x acerifolia 'Bloodgood'

Check out the quirky bark texture and colors as this tree sheds it's older bark.

Golden Raindrops Crabapple    Malus transiflora 'Schmidtcutleaf'

The sky is raining yellow! These small yellow fruits turn brown as the temperature drops.

Kramer's Red Winter Heath    Erica x darleyensis 'Kramer's Rote

Aren't these flowers darley-ing!? This small shrub blooms all winter long!

Incense Cedar    Calocedrus decurrens

Now that the blooms are out of the way, this cedars reddish-brown bark really stands out.

Sacred Datura    Datura wrightii

This plant clearly does not want it's fruit eaten. Not only are it's seeds encased in this spiny capsule, they are also poisonous if ingested.

With winter at the door, now is not the time to delay coming to Red Butte Garden. Come for a walk to get your blood pumping and to feast your eyes on falls splendor.
