Late summer at Red Butte is when many plants in the sunflower, or aster family (Asteraceae), put on the best show.

September Ruby Aster   Aster novae-angliae 'Septemberrubin'

The flowers in this family come in many sizes from the very large like the garden sunflower, to the very small like the native Broom Snakeweed.

Mango Meadowbriteâ„¢ Coneflower   Echinacea 'CBG Cone 3'

As you walk through the Garden, you can find examples of flowers in the aster family all throughout.

Spreading Fleabane Daisy    Erigeron divergens

October Skies Aster    Aster oblongifolius   'October Skies'

Goblin Blanket Flower    Gaillardia x grandiflora

Frikart's Aster    Aster X frikartii   'Moench'

Showy Goldeneye    Viguiera multiflora

See how many different kinds of aster family flowers you can find!

The trees in the Natural Area are telling us that Fall is just around the corner, so keep an eye out for gorgeous fall colors in the garden.
