Job Summary

Performs a variety of accounting duties that range in level of complexity from clerical accounting duties such as managing receivables or serving as payroll reporter, to more complex duties such as preparing budget or reconciling accounts. This position is considered Category IIA : Not required on campus and has the ability to telework remotely for the duration of the University of Utah’s response to COVID -19. An employee hired into this role will be responsible for providing space, telephone, printing, networking and/or internet capabilities at the telecommute location and agree to the terms of the University of Utah campus and Health Academics COVID -19 Telecommuting Agreement. Occasional on site work will be required to perform essential duties.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and reconciles accounts and makes correction to journal entries as necessary. Tracks and reports revenue and expenditures.
  • Assists in preparing departmental or grant budgets and cost reports and variance analysis
  • Reviews expense and accounting documents for accuracy and appropriate approvals and ensures transactions are charged to the correct account.
  • Handles accounts receivable for department including invoice preparation, aging reports, follow up on past due accounts. Compiles bank deposits and delivers to University Income Accounting daily.
  • May prepare and process purchasing, travel documents and create special checks or check requests. Solves problem invoices and processes for payment.
  • May serve as the department payroll reporter. May track department payroll expenses and ensure labor costs are charged to correct accounts.
  • Reviews and reconciles University procurement purchases ensuring correct Purchasing and Accounting procedures are followed.
  • Reconciles monthly management statements and maintains back-up documentation. Assists with financial month end processing.
  • Assists in tracking department inventory. Maintains accurate files.
  • Facilitates financial synergy among the Garden departments to optimize use of University resources. Develops systems to support the input and handling of financial data and tracking. Trains other clerical staff.
  • Facilities financial Identifies and responds to resolve any financial/operational issues that may emerge between Garden departments.
  • May serve as petty cash custodian for the department.
  • Ensures Payment Card Data Security Standards ( PCI - DSS ) are followed by training staff and preforming monthly checks of hardware.
  • Serves as a liaison for other Red Butte Garden departments by answering questions, resolving issues and/or providing information as needed.
  • Aids with preparation of annual external audits
  • Assists with strategizing, overseeing, and analyzing budget proposals.
  • May serve on various Garden committees.

Qualifications

Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field, plus two years full-time clerical accounting experience or equivalency required. The ability to understand, interpret, and apply University and departmental regulations; demonstrated spreadsheet skills; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required. Experience using software programs such as PeopleSoft or Kronos may be required for certain positions.

Schedule

Must be able to work 16-29 hrs/week. Exact schedule will be coordinated with supervisor upon hire, and include weekday and weekend, daytime shifts.

Job Summary

The Horticulture Department at Red Butte Garden is seeking seasonal gardeners who want to work with plants and learn more about their care. Do you prefer working both indoors in a greenhouse and working out of doors, while learning more about plants and nature and working with people who are passionate about what they do? We strongly prefer people who are committed to the role of a Botanical Garden and want to be a part of a great team!

Responsibilities

A primary duty is to ensure a thorough, detail oriented, daily hand-watering so that plants have the proper moisture levels.

Must be willing and able to perform detail hand watering for several hours a day; co-lift 60 lb bales of soil/media and large plants for interior-scape change outs; operate soil mixer; work from ladders to hang shade cloths, change lights, hang/maintain color baskets; apply sanitation and disinfectant products; flexible with working on a variety of projects associated with simple greenhouse facilities maintenance, cleaning, and crop production.

Other duties include: making hose repairs as needed, weeding, planting, deadheading, pruning, fertilization, transplanting, sweeping, & event support. May also apply pesticides like insecticidal soaps and horticultural oils, under the supervision of a certified pesticide applicator.

Selected staff are required to wear a facial mask at all times on the UofU campus, including Red Butte Garden, during the pandemic.

Qualifications

Nine months professional work experience with the responsibility for five or more acres of grounds, or equivalency; a valid Utah vehicle operator’s license required; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required. Selected applicant will be expected to obtain a pesticide applicator’s license.

Preferences

Nine months professional work experience preferred, but not required. Pesticide applicators license also not required for this seasonal position. Must be at least 18 years of age, and able to operate equipment common to the trade. People who enjoy gardening, working with plants and/or desire to learn more. Able to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and temperature extremes, and understand the physical commitment required for gardening. Proven written and spoken communication skills, a commitment to provide excellent customer service, and ability to work cooperatively with others. Must commit to working 16-29 hrs/wk.

Job Summary

Red Butte Garden is currently accepting applications for our Visitor Services Staff. We are seeking friendly, out going, energetic individuals who are willing to provide top-notch service to our guests and customers at the Red Butte Garden Visitor Center. If you are a “people-person” that would enjoy working with the public on a day to day basis, we would like to meet you. As a representative of the Garden you have the opportunity to make a great first impression with first time visitors while expanding our relationships with our Garden visitors and growing member base. Collects fees or payments from customers purchasing goods or services. Prepares appropriate documentation to record transactions. This position is considered Category I: Mandatory and required on campus or health care facilities to support on-site operations. Employees hired into this category will be required to be physically located at the Garden if they are healthy and without COVID -19 symptoms.

Responsibilities

  • Collects money and returns change to customers
  • Counts money collected during shift, balances it with tickets or items sold, and submits to supervisor for review
  • Provides directions and answers general questions about Garden. Opens and closes facilities at beginning and end of shifts
  • Cleans work area by sweeping floors, wiping off counters
  • May assist at special events
  • May perform clerical tasks such as answering phones, responding to mail, or filing

Within the framework of University policy, the Cashier has the authority to carry out transactions related to the collection of payment for fees, fines, tickets, and purchases, and to give directions and respond to general questions. The Cashier is responsible for handling and safekeeping of cash during the shift. Requests for exceptions to policy are referred to the supervisor.

Duties include greeting and assisting customers in the Gift Shop, selling concert tickets, assisting with events and maintaining cleanliness of the facilities. This is a part-time, seasonal position the hours and shifts will vary. Some evening and weekend work is required.
