The Natural Area Awakes

The snow has melted off most of the natural area and the first spring flowers have started blooming. Before you head up there to take a look, take a stroll through the Rose Garden and see the amazing display of dwarf Iris.

Now on to the natural area. Watch for the Indian Potato just along the margin of the melting snow in the newly exposed soil. The entire plant is usually small enough that it can be covered by a quarter.

Indian Potato    Orogenia linearifolia

Biscuit Root Cymopterus longipes

You can find Biscuit Root in rocky exposed areas, usually ridges, all throughout the natural area.
